What does negative
canthal tilt mean?

Negative canthal tilt means the outer corner sits lower than the inner corner relative to the iris-center reference line. The eye line slopes downward toward the temple. Eye opening height and width add the rest of the outline.

Start with the shared reference and both eyes

Both angles use the same iris-center line. Compare the marked corners on each side before reading the average. Labels refer to photo-left and photo-right; a turned head or shifted gaze can change the measured projection.

If the range crosses zero, check the corners against the image. For example, −2° with a −4° to −0.5° range stays downward across that range; −0.5° with a −2° to +1° range crosses the direction boundary.

Read direction, shape and scoring together

First compare the two corner angles, then the eye opening ratio. A slightly negative angle can still sit within the level-leaning or almond-like display rules; stronger downward averages select the downturned profile. If the two sides point in opposite directions, the result highlights that contrast first.
